Series: Tales of the Spirit World: The Fall of the Blue Spirit

Having drawn La three times, I figured I should at least draw some of the other Gods, at least once. ^^; Sky-mother Tian is LOOSELY based on [the collective] Tara (तारा;)/Ārya Tārā and Jetsun Dolma (Tibetan: rje btsun sgrol ma) in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. She is a tantric deity,concerned with virtue, enlightenment, and achievement.

I tried to reference Tibetan mythos for her design, but that would have required making her white-skinned, and after La, it just seemed repetitive. ^^; (also, I think darker-skinned women are just prettier. :blush:) I did, however, reference Tibetan sources for her ornaments, including the jewel color scheme; white is for compassion, long life, healing and serenity, and black is for power (which is why all the jewels on her staff are black dur-hurr :crazy:). The lotus crown is meant to represent purity.

(I want that staff.)

Critiques

:icontsaalyo:
She somewhat reminds me of I Dream of Jeannie, notably the hair. ^_^

I have a bit of a problem with the arm not holding the staff. With the way it's positioned, it looks like the length of arm between shoulder and elbow is too long, since the elbow is positioned way off from her body.

You'll also want to work on hips. Her's seem too thin to me.

Finally, her hands are noticably different sizes. the one holding the staff is quite a bit bigger. You'll want to watch out for that.

You've done a great job detailing realistic folds all over the fabrics. I always struggle with that. Good coloring and lineart all around. She's cute. ^_^

very beautiful! I really adore that staff... is awesome!

It makes me laugh think that, when I created the sky god for my fanfiction, it was a guy with blue skin and white tattoos XD

Oooh, one of those ringly jangly staffs! Those are awesome, and I want one myself. The Airbender pattern on the head is neat, too.

Like Sio said, the scarf fading into the sky is a nice touch. It's like she's coming out of the sky itself, which, you know, fits, seeing as she's Tian...XD

I love the I Dream of Genie pants, too. XD

tian was always meant to be the "joyful" goddess, making her the perfect patron deity for the air nomads. :3

like i said, i want one of those - when i was in japan, i visited temples aplenty, but never actually saw a monk with one. as far as i know, though, they're mainly ceremonial nowadays, and darn me and my infidel status insofar as Buddhist ritual is concerned. ):

the sky-fade aspect was somewhat last minute, but when i did it, it was a bit of, "oh duh, this is what i should have planned from the beginning!" ^^;
