I swear by (Toph)God, everything written in the text boxes is taken STRAIGHT (word-for-word, verbatim, etc.) from my kanji instruction manual. It's supposed to explain how kanji evolved over however many thousands of years after arriving in Japan from China. A lot of them (so far) either deal with religion, death/killing, or body parts in some way, shape, or form. :O_o:

I think it's funny as hell; and interesting, because a lot of the Chinese/Korean/Japanese students I talk to don't know the history behind the kanji they learned by rote from about age 3, but every once and a while, the explanation makes me go: ":wtf: WHISKEY-TANGO-FOXTROT-OSCAR?!?! :wtf:"

:XD:

yeah, seriously! "shijin" is "citizen" so i went on a rant in my dorm kitchen how i'd never become a citizen of japan, now that I know i have to get pointy objects in the eye in order to do it.

I confused the hell outta the Japanese undergrads, but they think i'm nuts anyway, so it was all good. :crazy:

well, as a Japanese student, I have to admit I haven't come across kanji that were that weird, or my sensei was nice enough to change the definition not to freak us out too much xD;

or I completely ignored those parts o xo;;
though in some cases it's a real big help to know where the kanji derived from, so it's easier to remember.

Wow...
It's so true! Kanji tends to scare me sometimes but my teacher has her own ways to teach them but... they're not much better.

It's soooo true, which makes this twice as funny. It does make it easier to remember how to write them, though!
